Curator to lead tour of AGW art exhibition

This year’s AGW Biennial has a great array of works, which curator Iain Baxter& says represent the new energized spirit of Windsor. A professor emeritus of visual arts, he will lead a tour of the exhibition at the Art Gallery of Windsor this Friday, October 14.

Baxter& is not the only participant with a UWindsor connection. Most of the more than 30 local artists showcased have studied or taught at the School of Visual Arts.

Srimoyee Mitra, the gallery’s curator of contemporary art, says the exhibition reinforces its commitment to nurturing experimental and leading contemporary art practices from Southwestern Ontario and the Detroit region.

“This year’s Biennial highlights a spirit of collaboration and understanding within our civil society and cultural institutions to build a stronger community together,” she says. “I’d like to thank Iain Baxter& and the 34 participating artists and collectives for their commitment to this ambitious project.”

Friday’s tour will begin at 7 p.m. and lead into the opening reception at 8 p.m. Admission is $7, free for gallery members and children 12 and under. Find more information, including a full list of participating artists, on the exhibition Web site.
