Dinner to support youth conference on African diaspora

It is important for people to know who they are and where they come from, says Jawaria Qadeer. The fourth-year biological sciences major is one of the organizers of the African Diaspora Youth Conference, which will bring high school students to the University of Windsor campus May 10 to 12.

“We will bring kids from different cities here to learn about their heritage,” Qadeer says. “I am having a blast organizing this conference. It is going to have a great effect on the kids who come.”

The Faculty of Arts and Social Science is hosting a pasta fundraiser in support of the conference on Friday, March 9. It runs 6 to 9 p.m. at the Caboto Club, 2175 Parent Avenue.

In addition to an all-you-can-eat dinner, the event will feature door prizes, a silent auction, and entertainment. Admission is $20, $10 for students and free for children five and under. For tickets and more information, phone Qadeer at 519-903-2441.
