Film screenings to set stage for International Women’s Day

Two film screenings Monday will kick off campus observances of International Women’s Day.

The Help posterThe Windsor premiere of Miss Representation is set for 7 p.m. in Vanier Hall’s Oak Room. The filmmakers expose how children and teens are being sold the concept that the value of women and girls value lies in their youth, beauty and sexuality. The event is sponsored by the Feminist Research Group and Leadership Advancement for Women in Sport. Admission is free, but seating is limited; RSVP to gotovac@uwindsor.ca.

The Womyn’s Centre is hosting a free public screening of The Help at 7 p.m. in the theatre in Macdonald Hall. The film received several Acadaemy Award nominations, including best picture; Octavia Spencer won for best supporting actress.
