Music student to headline Six String Nation concert

UWindsor music student Adam Iannetta, who sings baritone, is a featured performer for a series of Windsor Symphony Orchestra concerts this weekend that will introduce Windsor audiences to a unique guitar that has travelled all across Canada, celebrating the unique stories and voices that weave the nation together.

Six String Nation is a project by writer and broadcaster Jowi Taylor, who spent years gathering materials for Voyageur, a six-string guitar he describes as “the Stanley Cup of musical instruments.” Among the materials embodied in its construction are a piece of the late prime minister Pierre Trudeau’s canoe paddle, stone from the Canadian Shield, wood from the Bluenose II schooner, and a piece of the hockey stick Paul Henderson used to score the winning goal in the 1972 Summit Series—the strap even contains material from Don Cherry’s wardrobe.

During performances Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Capitol Theatre, Taylor will present the instrument and it will be played by 10 guest guitarists. Everyone who attends the concert will have the opportunity to have their own photo taken with the guitar and will receive a print free of charge.
