Registration now open for 50th anniversary Celebration Weekend

Preparations for the University of Windsor’s 50th Anniversary weekend are in full swing, with another day of festivities added to run from Thursday to Sunday, September 19 to 22.

A special, to-be-announced concert event will open the 50th Anniversary weekend at Caesars Windsor beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 19. Caesars Windsor is a major sponsor of the anniversary weekend and will announce the name of this world-class act on July 10.

Among the many weekend activities is a vintage car show, Future Lancer Kids’ Zone, a pre-game party and football game featuring a half-time performance by singers Jody and son Billy Raffoul, campus showcase tours, winery and heritage tours, and the Windsor Lancer Fun Run.

Returning alumni can look forward to the Rock of All Ages mix and mingle party taking place in the Dillon quad area from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, September 20. Alumni can reconnect and reminisce with classmates and friends, share memories and dance under the stars to music from five decades.

Community members and alumni are now invited to register their interest in attending the weekend activities online.

Holly Ward, chief communications officer, said, “Through the website, visitors are able to register their attendance to both ticketed and non-ticketed events, to mark their calendars and get ready to celebrate the University’s exciting milestone this September. It’s a wonderful opportunity to return to campus, or visit it for the first time.”

A full list of information on special rates for accommodations, activities, alumni fun-facts and photos, and sponsorship is available at www.uwindsor.ca/anniversary. Fun-fact #1: Of the University of Windsor’s 110,000+ alumni, more than 36,000 reside in the Windsor-Essex region.

The 50th Anniversary website is updated regularly to include new event information, alumni photos, memories and ways of connecting with friends from the past.
