Document explains campus implications of federal anti-spam law

A new document posted on the website of Public Affairs and Communications explains the implications for the University of Windsor of Canada’s anti-spam law that will come into effect July 1.

The legislation covers any electronic message—e-mail, text or social networking message—is intended to encourage participation in a commercial activity. While the core activities of universities are not considered “commercial,” legal counsel has already been in contact with specific departments expected to be affected.

The document, “Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation: Implications for UWindsor,” provides definitions, exemptions, and a general introduction to the highlights of the legislation. Read it now on the public affairs website. Please direct any further questions to chief communications officer Holly Ward at Holly.Ward@uwindsor.ca or 519-253-3000, ext. 5066.
