One hundred UWindsor members of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) will be meeting closer to home thanks to a recent decision by the organization to recognize Windsor as a new section of IEEE Canada.

A total of 120 Windsor and Essex County IEEE members had previously been included in the South Eastern Michigan chapter of the organization, with local members crossing the border to participate in the group’s activities. The closest Canadian chapter is in London.

“Now that we have our independent section, we can hold events locally, host conferences, workshops and invite distinguished speakers,” says  Esrafil Jedari, Assistant Researcher in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and IEEE Windsor Section

“Our focus is to elevate our activities, and hope this will include joint events with other sections. We can get support from IEEE’s head office and also IEEE Canada, as well as the IEEE Canada Foundation.”
