Theatre educator to discuss the importance of the humanities

A free public lecture will consider the question of “Why Humanities Matter,” today at 5 p.m. in Katzman Lounge, Vanier Hall.

The presentation by Nancy Kindelan, a professor in the theatre department of Northeastern University, is part of Humanities Week, a celebration of the humanist disciplines. Kindelan is the author of Artistic Literacy, which argues that that theatre’s signature pedagogy helps all undergraduates become actively engaged in developing critical and value-focused skills.

Also today is the first of four daily Humanities Cafés at 1 p.m. in the Leddy Library. They run through Friday, same time, same place.

On Wednesday, Toronto-based journalist Shawn Micallef will discuss “Walking off the Page” in a free public lecture, also at 5 p.m. in Katzman Lounge. Micallef writes a column for the Toronto Star and teaches at the University of Toronto and OCAD University.
