Former federal employee calls for accountability in government

Former parliamentary budget officer Kevin Page will be at the University of Windsor on Friday, October 9, to discuss his recently-released book Unaccountable: Truth and Lies on Parliament Hill.

The event will take place in room B03, Odette Building, starting at 9 a.m. In the book, released August 25, Page discusses the corruption he witnessed as Canada’s first-ever parliamentary budget officer from 2008 till March 2013.

The Parliamentary Budget Office is an independent organization which examines and tracks federal government spending. Citizens have a right to ask the budget office for any government financial records.

Page served his mandate observing the Conservative government of Stephen Harper, which he describes as wanting “ultimate control.” His office often came under criticism by members of the government during his tenure. Page now works at the University of Ottawa as a research chair.

Everyone is welcome at the free event, which is sponsored by the Department of Political Science.
