Officials tour downtown development site

Construction crews led officials from the University and municipal government through the future home of the School of Creative Arts in Windsor’s downtown Tuesday.

They saw the progress of work in the former Armouries building, which is getting a $32.6 million makeover to house programs in visual arts, music and film production—along with a new edifice to arise on the footprint of the former Tunnel Bar-B-Q.

The new facilities in the city centre will comprise a creative complex for students, bringing their talents to engage with the broader community, says UWindsor president Alan Wildeman.

“There is great benefit in stronger ties between universities and urban centres, particularly for education and outreach in the arts, humanities, and social sciences,” he said when the Board of Governors approved the project last year.

The Pitt-Ferry building opened this fall to the School of Social Work and Centre for Executive and Professional Education.
