Concert to feature 80 voices celebrating Christmas in song

Festival of Christmas, Sunday at Assumption Parish – McEwan Campus, is a choral celebration of Yuletide music through the ages sung by the 60-voice University Singers and 24-voice University Chamber Choir, both under the direction of Bruce J. G. Kotowich.

This year’s program will feature the Windsor premiere of Snow Angel, a five-movement choral work written by Sarah Quartel that is touching singers and audiences across the globe. Through song and narrative, the work weaves together stories of love and light, rebirth and rejuvenation and highlights the strength and beauty a child’s voice can bring to our often-troubled world.

The concert will also include performances of Healey Willan’s “Hodie, Christus natus,” Harold Darke’s “In the Bleak Mid-Winter,” and John Rutter arrangements of “I wonder as I Wander,” “Deck the Halls,” and “The Very Best Time of Year,” and the popular carol sing-along. Find a complete program on the event website.

The Festival of Christmas will begin at 3 p.m. December 6. The setting is the former Holy Name of Mary Church, located at 681 McEwan Avenue.

Admission is $10; $5 for students. Tickets are available at the door (cash only), in advance at 519-253-3000, ext. 4212, or online at www.uwindsor.ca/music.
