Reception fêtes honour students in science

As North America’s knowledge-based economy continues to grow, their skills will be increasingly in demand, dean Chris Houser told students at a reception for members of his honour roll, September 30.

“Just in the environmental sector alone, a House of Commons report from 2012 predicts that there will; be at least 100,000 job vacancies in the next 10 years,” Dr. Houser said. “For those looking to land one of those jobs, the key is to acquire the right set of skills.”

The event honoured 445 students who qualified for the dean’s list in 2016, in the process earning more than $1.8 million in scholarships and awards.

In addition to each receiving a portable speaker imprinted with the logo of the Faculty of Science, guests heard an address by UWindsor alumnus Nick Vukotic (BSc 2009, PhD 2015), recipient of numerous awards, including the Governor General’s Gold Medal.
