Event to offer ways to contribute to community

More than 20 local organizations will set up information booths Wednesday in the CAW Student Centre for the second annual Lancers Care Charity Day.

“This is a wonderful day where we open our doors to local charity organizations to meet, greet, inform, and possibly recruit volunteers for their services,” says Sandra Riccio-Muglia, director of student events and programming for the centre. “Students can network with these groups and learn ways to give back to their communities.”

While young people may underestimate the value of community service, it is a key element in a well-rounded career portfolio, she says. Employers are looking for people with a balance of technical skills and people skills — volunteering can develop both.

The event will run 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. November 9 in the Commons area. Find a list of the participating charities on the fair website.
