Science on Tap offers event to get you ahead

Just in time for Brain Awareness Week, the Faculty of Science is hosting “Boozy Brains,” featuring mini-talks by UWindsor brain researchers, demonstrations about how the brain and senses work, brain-focused trivia and games, and research highlights from campus labs.

The event is part of Science On Tap, a series of outreach activities to encourage members of the community to come and meet UWindsor researchers and get a glimpse into the research happening on campus.

“We want people to come out and join the fun because this is a perfect opportunity to highlight the great work and the great people that work on the brain and sensory systems here at UWindsor,” says event organizer Kirsten Poling, science teaching and learning specialist in the Department of Biological Sciences.

“This event also highlights the collaborative efforts of the Behaviour, Cognition and Neuroscience groups, as the six talks come from across diverse fields of biology and psychology. There will be time to mingle and see demonstrations and meet the researchers, so that people can see what scientists are really like.”

The presentations include:

  • Brandon Zuccato and Isabelle Messa on concussion research;
  • Jeff Dason on fruit fly neuroscience;
  • Josh Wright on the effects of alcohol on hearing;
  • Dirusha Moodley and Julia Barsotta on the Aphasia Friendly Canada network;
  • Barb Zielinski on the sense of smell; and
  • Kassandra Korcsog on memory.

“Boozy Brains” runs 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Craft Heads Brewing Company, 89 University Avenue West. Tickets are $10 and get you admission, as well as food and one beer. Buy tickets at Snapd online.
