The instructors in the English Language Improvement Program are helping Sima Meghdari identify errors in her writing and conversation.
“Now I know specifically what mistakes I make, so I can correct them,” she says. “Plus, I am learning a lot of new vocabulary.”
Those skills will come in handy when she begins studies toward a master’s degree in accounting at the Odette School of Business. She earned an undergraduate degree in management in her home city of Tehran, Iran, and hopes to pursue a career in Canada after graduation.
“With my major, I have a lot of opportunities,” Meghdari says.
While she originally chose Windsor because the University is well-known and respected, she has come to appreciate the surrounding community on its own merits.
“I like a small city,” she says. “Here I can go everywhere easily; everything is within walking distance.”
Plus, says Meghdari: “The people are really friendly.”
The Centre for English Language Development will celebrate international language students and their contributions to campus and community on World Student Day, Friday July 20. UWindsor faculty, staff, and students are invited to join in free activities, entertainment, and a lunch on Turtle Island Walk from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
