The Humanities Research Group is sponsoring the screening of Godard Mon Amour on Sunday, November 4, at the Windsor International Film Festival.
The movie is a political, philosophical, and biographical roller coaster that follows French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard through a profound artistic crisis against the backdrop of civil unrest in May 1968 that threatens to overturn the Fifth Republic.
HRG director Kim Nelson says the group — like the festival — seeks to engage the city and region with thought-provoking ideas and experiences.
“The HRG is thrilled to team up with WIFF to showcase a film that references Paris 1968 on its 50th anniversary,” she says. “Godard Mon Amour is about one of the most inventive and influential filmmakers of the 20th century, by one of the great directors of the 21st (Oscar winner Michel Hazanavicius).”
The festival’s executive director, Vincent Georgie, says the groups’ choice of film to sponsor is perfect for cinema lovers.
“The HRG is very active and continues to raise its impressive profile by initiating events that start conversations,” he says.
