Bernarda Camello-DoctorProud alumna Bernarda Camello-Doctor will match up to $10,000 in donations to support UWindsor students Tuesday.

Matching pledge latest act by generous supporter

A pledge to match up to $10,000 in donations to support UWindsor students is not the first act of generosity by Bernarda Camello-Doctor, whose connections to the institution run deep.

In almost 60 years of study at the University she earned two degrees (MEd 1984, CRS 1999), she was married to the late Antonio Doctor, a professor of visual arts, and saw both her sons — Josef and Benedict — graduate from the school.

Her latest contribution will double the first $10,000 donated on Giving Tuesday, May 5, to the Student Relief Fund, campus food pantry, or student research opportunities.

“With my gift I hope to inspire others to support our students during this crisis,” says Camello-Doctor. “Education impacts so many aspects of an individual’s life. I want to ensure our students are able to achieve their goals.”

That advocacy for students has included a long stint on the executive of the Organization for Part-time University Students and a legacy of volunteerism that won her an Alumni Award of Merit in 2017, a Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers from the Governor of General of Canada in 2013, and a 2012 Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.

To learn how you can make a donation that will be doubled by Camello-Doctor, visit the UWindsor Giving Tuesday website.

You can also tune in to a live broadcast at noon May 5 to hear more about the day of giving, the impact of COVID-19 on the lives of students, and the many ways our UWindsor community is rising to the challenges posed by the pandemic. Watch for more details forthcoming.
