New scholarships support students entering Women’s and Gender Studies programs

In Fall 2020, five students of Women’s and Gender Studies will each receive $1,000 scholarships. The program is launching four entrance scholarships and one new internal transfer scholarship to support new students.

Acting director Jane Ku notes that Women’s and Gender Studies, as a discipline, is academically engaging, personally fulfilling, and practical learning for the diverse workplace.

“We offer the critical knowledge and leadership skills to become successful in the global world,” she says.

These new scholarships are designed for students pursuing the Bachelor of Social Work degree in social work and women’s studies or a B.A. in Women’s and Gender Studies on its own or combined with another program.

“It is our hope that these scholarships will support students interested in using feminist analysis to enhance their program of study and careers in human service, corporate world, government, law and social justice,” says Dr. Ku. “We want students to think about Women’s and Gender Studies in their academic careers. Our graduates are highly sought after for leadership roles on-campus and in their careers.”

Students may apply starting Aug. 1 for Fall 2020 via UWinsite Student under the Award Profile tile. The deadline to apply is Aug. 15.
