Panel to discuss cases of women’s rights defenders in Saudi Arabia and Iran

A panel discussion Thursday, March 18, will explore the ongoing cases of Loujain al-Hathloul, Nassima al-Sada, Samar Badawi, and Nasrin Sotoudeh: women’s rights defenders in Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Panellists include:

  • Safa Al-Ahmad, a Saudi Arabian journalist and filmmaker who has directed documentaries for PBS and the BBC focusing on uprisings in the Middle East;
  • Maryam Shafipour, an Iranian women’s human rights defender; and
  • Gail Davidson, founder of Lawyers’ Rights Watch Canada.

The event is hosted by the Windsor Law chapter of Amnesty International and Amnesty Canada’s Gender Rights Specialized Team in belated observance of International Women’s Day.

It will start at 6:30 p.m. over Zoom; register here to attend.
