More than 75 local high school and middle school educators registered to attend Educators’ Day, held on campus Dec. 14.
Designed by the University’s Educators Working Group and Undergraduate and Recruitment Committee, the event featured an information panel with representatives from each faculty, bringing to life the exceptional learning experiences at UWindsor; guided mini-tours tours in four neighbourhoods of campus; and a lunch-and-learn experience that included a presentation on such critical topics as student transition, student wellness and mental health, supports for new learners, and initiatives to support Black, Indigenous, and international learners.
The event was designed to support the important work that educators do in schools and community, providing an opportunity to demonstrate what the University has in place to help future Lancers thrive.
The program touched on how students and parents can overcome concerns about costs, understand the University of Windsor’s value propositions, effectively share information on various areas of study, identify the supports available to help guide career discernment, learn about alumni, and highlight how hands-on learning assists students to thrive.
“We have been making significant enhancements to better connect with key influencers of prospective Lancers, their high school teachers and guidance counsellors,” says Chris Busch, associate vice-president enrolment management. “This includes bringing them to campus, immersing them in various learning spaces, such as at CEI and SoCA, and building a robust contact repository of over 6,000 educators and regularly sharing information with them.”
Dr. Busch notes that providing timely information to educators helps them do their job better and more efficiently and supports the University’s own enrolment efforts.
