Solo recitals to showcase music student talents

The 2013 spring season continues this weekend with four solo recitals by music students in their graduating or third years. Most of these events will be juried recitals performed for credit, but some students will perform purely for the experience. Each recital incorporates one hour of music, the repertoire representing a variety of styles and periods.

Music student to headline Six String Nation concert

UWindsor music student Adam Iannetta, who sings baritone, is a featured performer for a series of Windsor Symphony Orchestra concerts this weekend that will introduce Windsor audiences to a unique guitar that has travelled all across Canada, celebrating the unique stories and voices that weave the nation together.

Percussionist hits winning note in scholarship competition

Percussionist Meghan Chamberlain, a third-year music major, took top honours—and the $500- prize—at the Ron W. Ianni Memorial Scholarship Competition on Sunday, January 13.

Chamberlain studies with Julian Jeun, and has previously studied with Nicholas Papador and Tim Francom. She aspires to become a professional performer and teacher.

For Sunday’s recital, she took to the marimba to perform David Maslanka’s composition Variations on Lost Love, Part II.

Concert to showcase top student soloists

The School for Arts and Creative Innovation will kick off its 2013 concert season with a recital showcasing some of its best performers Sunday, January 13.

The Ron W. Ianni Memorial Scholarship Competition will feature solo performances by eight student musicians vying for a $500 scholarship named to honour the late president of the University of Windsor.

These competitors qualified by receiving the highest marks in the December 2012 instrument juries:

Children’s concerts boast UWindsor connection

A UWindsor music student and a recent grad are among the featured performers for a series of educational concerts by the Windsor Symphony Orchestra.

The 20 concerts will bring the full orchestra to churches, schools and concert halls throughout Windsor-Essex for programs aimed at elementary school students.
