President Wildeman announces structural changes to University Advancement division

UWindsor president Alan Wildeman announced a restructuring plan yesterday for the University Advancement division intended to more clearly align the activities and services Advancement provides with the University’s overarching goals.

These include a commitment to greater communication and engagement with its key community partners, a closer alignment of fundraising within the faculties, and the need to see its financial and human resources aligned most effectively.

President to address issues related to University’s future

UWindsor president Alan Wildeman will discuss the future of universities in Canada—with a particular focus on the University of Windsor—in a public address Tuesday, February 5.

Students, faculty, staff and the broader community are invited to the one-hour event, which will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the BMO Collaborative Learning Forum, room 1100, Centre for Engineering Innovation.

Attendees will have an opportunity to experience the newest building on campus, as well as hear Dr. Wildeman’s address, entitled “The future is never what it used to be.”

MP Jeff Watson to announce auto innovation agreement today

Jeff Watson, Member of Parliament for Essex, on behalf of the Honourable Joe Oliver, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, will be on campus today to announce an agreement that will encourage innovation in the automotive industry.

Watson will be joined by UWindsor president Alan Wildeman for the announcement, at 11 a.m. near the atrium staircase in the Ed Lumley Centre for Engineering Innovation. The campus community is invited to attend.

Federal government invests in future innovators

Minister Joe Oliver, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), announced Friday the Canadian government's investment in Carleton University to create internship opportunities and fellowships for graduates and graduate students in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. This investment will also benefit businesses across southern Ontario.

Key transfer video available online for viewing

A video recording the November 30 celebration of the University’s takeover of the former Windsor Star buildings is now available for viewing.

Crowd cheers University’s takeover of downtown site

Hundreds of students, alumni, staff, faculty and well-wishers cheered as UWindsor president Alan Wildeman accepted the keys to the former Windsor Star buildings from publisher Marty Beneteau on Friday, symbolizing the transfer of the property to the University.

First-year business student Qiaotian Yan said it was fun to participate in the event, which jammed the corner of Pitt and Ferry streets for a photograph and video to document the historic occasion.

President’s message outlines changes

The 2013/14 Strategic Priority Fund will consider applications for new academic appointments for the first time, UWindsor president Alan Wildeman announced Thursday in an e-mail update to faculty and staff.

The change was made in response to growth in undergraduate enrolment and a desire to increase capacity for graduate enrolment.

“Requests can be made for regular full-time tenure-track, for limited term appointments, or for sessional positions,” Dr. Wildeman wrote.
