Reception to bid farewell to executive director of Facility Services

Friends and colleagues of Susan Mark, executive director of Facility Services, will gather to wish her well at an open house reception on Tuesday, December 19.

Mark will leave the employ of the University of Windsor at the end of December. During her time at the University, she was instrumental in the campus’ capital transformation.

Tuesday’s open house will run from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Freed-Orman Commons, Assumption Hall, and is open to all.

Streetwork to close California Avenue through summer

Construction on streets adjacent to the campus will pose an inconvenience this summer, but will ultimately prove worthwhile.

Water pipe rupture to slow cooling of some campus buildings

A break in the pipes which carry water to cool most campus buildings will complicate the seasonal process of switching from heating to cooling, says Susan Mark, executive director of Facility Services.

“We were in the process of filling our system with chilled water so that we could cool buildings as necessary by May 1, when a 40-year-old pipe broke under pressure,” she said. “Repairs are underway which will allow us to feed chilled water from the Central Refrigeration Plant at the river.”

Unseasonable temperatures pose a challenge to campus heating and cooling systems

With winter temperatures now dipping low on the thermometer, the campus community is reminded that Facility Services staff has completed the semi-annual system switch from summer air conditioning to cold-weather heating.

Susan Mark, executive director of Facility Services, says maintenance staff spent several weeks preparing equipment at the Energy Conversion Centre, the Central Refrigeration Plant and buildings across campus, and now that the change is in place there is no going back until spring.

Open house to outline plans for downtown campus

The public will have a chance to say goodbye to the Windsor Armouries and view the University’s plans for its downtown campus during an open house in the building on Thursday, October 4.

The event will run 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the historical building, located on University Avenue at Freedom Way. UWindsor president Alan Wildeman, project managers, architects and representatives from the City of Windsor will be on-hand to discuss plans for the development of the Armouries, as well as the former bus depot across the street and the Windsor Star complex several blocks to the west.
