Reception to celebrate opening of art exhibit

A free public reception Thursday, February 7, will celebrate the opening of SPREAD, an exhibit by students of visual arts, curated by instructors Nadja Pelkey, Victor Romao and Julie Sando.

The show takes the form of a space displaying handmade and re-purposed artist’s books, zines, painting and sculptures, and an adjacent reading room where patrons may peruse some of the printed works.

It is in the LeBel Building’s SoVA Projects Gallery. Thursday’s reception runs from 6 to 8 p.m.

Reception Saturday to open exhibit by UWindsor art grads

Visual arts instructor Victor Romao (BFA 1991, BEd 1992, MFA 2010) and grad Pina Frabotta (BFA 1991) are two of four artists featured in “Telling Tales,” an exhibition opening this weekend at SB Contemporary Art.

The show focuses on drawings; all of the artists have been selected for the narrative quality of their work, says gallery owner Sarah Beveridge (BFA 1997).

“The new work of Victor Romao continues to be technically precise as he narrates a testosterone heavy subject matter that can be both shocking and humorous to the viewer at the same time,” she says.

Art exhibition to celebrate love of bicycles

Call it velocipedephilia. The gallery SB Contemporary Art is teaming up with Canada South Eco Tours to present “For the Love of Bikes,” a community art exhibition in celebration of Windsor’s 54th Via Italia Race and bicycle culture, through September 22.

The nature of the show will help it to attract a variety of viewers, says Victor Romão, a visual arts instructor and three-time UWindsor grad (BFA 1991, BEd 1992, MFA 2010). He will exhibit a new 22" x 28" drawing, entitled With the greatest of ease, executed in acrylic ink on watercolour paper.

Reception to celebrate opening of art instructor’s solo exhibition

A free public reception Friday, January 13, will celebrate the opening of “Southwestern Gothic,” a solo exhibition by visual arts instructor Victor Romao at the Artcite gallery.

Romao, also a UWindsor grad (BFA 1991, BEd 1992, MFA 2010), is a multi-disciplinary artist focused on drawing, printmaking and sculpture. His current work explores the topics of fear and male violence.

Friday’s reception begins at 7:30 p.m. in the gallery, 109 University Avenue West.
