Course Schedule

Due to the recent IT outage, Abby had to manually schedule all courses. The course schedule will be available to instructors in the middle of August. Highlights for this year’s schedule: Some courses will be scheduled on Fridays.

Head Start

On July 8 and 9, the university hosted orientation events for new students to get to know the university and their programs so that they can prepare for their studies earlier. At the event, new students learned the major differences between high school and university, discovered ways to get involved on campus, connected with academic program advisors, learned about life as a Lancer, and much more. https://future.uwindsor.ca/head-start.

George Zhou and Education Society executives (Ghallia Hashem, Alyssa Miskov-Wilhelm, and Ayah Abdo) welcomed the new concurrent students from both Faculty of Science and FAHSS through a brief introduction of the curriculum map, games, and a tour of the education building, library CRC center, and the newly renovated education Gym.

September 2nd Orientation

The faculty will host an orientation to our new students (consecutive and concurrent) in the morning of Sept 2. The finalized agenda will be sent out soon. As last year, a faculty panel (three faculty members) will be included in the agenda. Please let Lina know if you have time and interest in sitting on the panel. All faculty members are welcome to attend the orientation and say hello to our new students.

Pierre’s Retirement Gathering

As you know, Pierre’s retirement officially began on June 1. To honour Pierre for his ~20 years of service, a collection was started for a retirement/farewell gift to be purchased.  The generosity displayed by the Education Community was overwhelming, and a true testament to the impact Pierre and his tech-savvy had on us all.  The contribution campaign was so successful, in fact, that it was clear the gift needed to be presented in person.  Since the life of a retiree is actually quite busy, we quickly arranged a small staff gathering on Wednesday, June 15 to say our teary-eyed farewells in person. Pierre’s expression when receiving his gift and reading the beautiful messages in the card was absolutely priceless. We are sorry the event couldn’t be held for everyone in our Community to attend, but plans are in the works for a larger-scale celebration to be held in the near future to honour Pierre and our recent Faculty retirees who couldn’t be celebrated in person due to pandemic restrictions.

Tech Studies Social

For the first time since July 2019, teacher candidates in the technological studies teacher education program are attending classes and completing course components in-person on UWindsor’s campus. To mark such an occasion, and to celebrate the cross-over of two cohorts comprised of candidates from various regions across the province, an evening social event was held at the Sandwich Brewing Company (3232 Sandwich St., Windsor, ON) on Tuesday, July 19. The event brought together candidates starting and candidates on the cusp of completing the 14-month program this summer (2022), as well as faculty, instructors, and staff engaged in an ongoing basis in the delivery of the program. Attendees attest that this gathering at one of Windsor’s most historic, architecturally beautiful, and unique venues served up more than just tasty food and beverages. It was an enjoyable diversion in the midst of an intense and challenging work week, and a time of refreshment needed prior to the days and weeks to come.

Testimonial Message from a Tech Studies TC

Hi Dr. Zhou, It was great to meet you in person this evening. Thanks for taking the time to come out and meet with as many of us as possible.  I've spoken many times to Tim about how good the staff is in the Fac. of Ed office and how instrumental they've ALL been in my personal success and my classmates as well.  Not only in the program and our courses, but also setting us up for success in our careers.

I briefly spoke with you and Sean about how we both already have work lined up for this fall and I owe that to Karen.  It's her hard work and effort that got us placements in schools that are in our hometowns.  It's her work behind the scenes that help us get our foot in the door.  Karen could make it easy on herself like other universities and have placement only be in the boards that are close to Windsor.  But I'm from Woodstock, so that's not ideal for me... Karen put the time and effort to connect with my local board to get me a placement where I can have a future and be able to work. So, for that I am forever grateful!

Dana has communicated above and beyond for us in the Tech Studies program.  There hasn't been any doubt in my mind about where I'm supposed to be, what course I'm taking with who etc. etc.  The staff have communicated so well with us and again set us up for success.  If there were any questions, they answered them with grace and were always willing to go above and beyond to make sure we got what we needed.  Even when we likely should have done our own research to find the answer ourselves, they never once made us feel that way and always maintained a high level of professionalism when "dealing" with "difficult" students or silly questions.

Please feel free to share this with the office staff.  As a teacher I've felt how valuable it is when a student has thanked me for my efforts and commitment to them... and I hope this message helps your staff realize how valuable and instrumental each one of them is. If they're ever doubting what they do and if it makes a difference, then remind them that they have a profound impact on all of our success.

So again I say "THANK YOU!"
