Andrew Jenner receives the the “U” Make a Difference Award from President Robert Gordon during the university’s annual Employee Recognition Awards reception.
A member of the Faculty of Engineering’s technical staff has been recognized for his innovative ideas and problem solving that have made an impact campus-wide.
Andrew Jenner, the faculty’s manager of technical support, was nominated by his peers for his “exceptional willingness” to assist colleagues.
“Andy’s ongoing responsiveness and contributions to support his colleagues across the university is inspiring and builds morale, respect. His positive approach makes for a more fun and collegial environment,” the vice president of human resources, said during the university’s annual Employee Recognition Awards reception on Jan. 20.
“He exemplifies excellence and the ability to reach above and beyond the expected to truly make a difference.”
Jenner received the “U” Make a Difference Award and was among 10 other honourees. In his role, Jenner oversees technical operations of the Ed Lumley Centre for Engineering Innovation and 18 engineering technologists.
His nominators referred to last year’s Fall Open House as an example of one of the numerous times Jenner has gone “beyond his normal responsibilities to benefit the entire university” when he stayed past scheduled hours to facilitate lab tours for latecomers comprised of prospective students and their families. He was also recognized for building and maintaining exemplary, collaborative relationships and contributing to the development of a positive and engaged community.
“By nature, he is innovative, generating and driving new ideas, processes, or seeks to continuously improve beyond his normal responsibilities to benefit the entire university,” she added. “He demonstrates exceptional initiative, perseverance and commitment in meeting or exceeding the needs of others.”
The University of Windsor is made richer by the leadership shown by its faculty and staff, said president Robert Gordon.
“Our employees are the hard-working creative engine that keeps our University running,” he told a capacity crowd in the Alumni Auditorium. “It’s your creative commitment to the challenges we face that really does make a difference.”
