Energy Conversion Centre (Heating & Cooling)

The Energy Conversion Centre (ECC) is located at 660 Patricia Street.

ECC is responsible for the heating/cooling and ventilation systems of buildings across campus.

Concerns regarding heating, cooling, malfunctioning thermostats and the like should be reported as follows:

  • Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. please contact Maintenance Dispatch at extension 2850.
  • Outside of normal business hours please contact the engineer on duty at extension 7027.

ECC is an operation that runs 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

Power Generation

The operation includes a Cogeneration system generating 4MW of power, centrifugal and absorption chillers producing 4800 tons of refrigeration; gas fired boiler generating over 200,000 Lbs/Hr steam and a 100 bp main air compressor supplying compressed air for main campus building systems and laboratory use. In all, the Energy Conversion Centre provides about 40% of the total campus energy needs. The rest of it is purchased from traditional carriers—and it is expensive—so please remember to turn off your lights, appliances, etc. when not in use.

The department services and maintains all HVAC and refrigeration equipment on campus.

Heating and Cooling

Many calls are received when outside temperatures change drastically. Please be as specific as possible regarding the extent of the temperature variance. While the intent is to be sensitive to all customer needs, some areas will require emergency assistance, while others can be attended to as soon as personnel can be dispatched to the area.

Air Quality

Air Quality on campus is an ongoing concern. The computerized preventative maintenance system helps to ensure that the air handling equipment is well maintained so that proper air quality is provided.

All reported concerns about air quality are investigated promptly and appropriate action is taken.
