GA/TA workshops and supports for online teaching and learning

Workshops are periodically offered to graduate assistants (GAs), and teaching assistants (TAs) in all departments - view current workshops.

Other Supports for GAs and TAs as they transition to support online teaching:

Virtual Drop-in

The GATA Network is hosting virtual drop-in office hours to help support GAs/TAs in their transition to supporting online teaching. Drop-in office hours are currently on-going and will occur until the end of the Summer Session. New office hours after the Summer Session will be posted with advanced notice.

Office hours through Intersession/Summer will occur Monday through Friday from 11:30am-12:30pm and 4:00pm-5:00pm

After selecting the link, participants simply need to  select ‘join room’. 

Individual Meetings

Individual meetings can be arranged for those who cannot attend the pre-set office hours. To set-up an individual meeting please email the GATA Network Coordinators, Laura Chittle ( or Elizabeth Ismail ( or In your email, please include a brief description of the questions that you have to ensure the GATA Network can best support you.


GATAcademy is a free full-day professional development event exclusively for current and prospective graduate and teaching assistants. Workshops will feature material and activities for both new and experienced GAs/TAs that will help them improve their teaching and be more proficient in their role. Topics include using Blackboard Collaborate, being a GA/TA online, best practices in grading and feedback, and more! The unique characteristic of this event is that it is facilitated by GAs for GAs and TAs. As well, some sessions feature GA and faculty members co-facilitating workshops.

In Fall 2020, GATAcademy will be held completely online, as a week-long event from August 31st-September 4th, 2020.  For more information on this and other events coordinated by the GATA Network, please visit
