Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGSM and CGSD) - Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements 2023-24 (Fall competition)

CGS (Master's and Doctoral) holders at the University of Windsor will be receiving an e-mail from the graduate studies regarding this award, inviting them to apply for a Michael Smith Foreign Study supplement if they are eligible

The Canada Graduate Scholarships – Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements (CGS-MSFSS) program supports high-caliber Canadian graduate students in building global linkages and international networks through the pursuit of exceptional research experiences abroad. By accessing international scientific research and training, CGS-MSFSS recipients will contribute to strengthening the potential for collaboration between Canadian institutions and other research institutions outside of Canada.

  • These supplements are available only to students who are recipients of Canada Graduate Scholarship from any of the Tri-Council agencies and who wish to undertake a period of study (2-6 months) abroad.
  • Successful students have one year to take up the award within one year of receiving the notice of award for the CGS-MSFSS.
  • Successful students must be registered in a graduate research studies program at a Canadian institution for the duration of your research study period abroad and return to complete their degree at their Canadian institution.
  • The value of the CGS-MSFSS award is up to $6,000, based on the information and budget justification provided in the application.  Supplements are non-renewable.
  • Candidates applying for the CGS-MSFSS access the application from a single harmonized program description hosted on NSERC’s website:

Allocations are no longer provided for this competition, but we are still required to rank applications and forward all eligible applications to each agency.

Since the applications must first be reviewed at the departmental level, departments are to set an internal deadline for receipt of these applications from any of their CGS holders.

Departments are invited to send ranked nominations for each agency's Foreign Study Supplement allocation, as appropriate, to the Graduate Studies Office by Friday, September 22, 2023.
