The Online Learning Technologies Analyst (OLTA) has foundational knowledge of and administers all aspects of a range of current and emerging Educational Technologies. The OLTA investigates and recommends appropriate current and future educational technologies to support the needs of the campus and Office of Open Learning (OOL) online learning team. The OLTA helps develop and guide processes for selecting and implementing educational technologies and uses industry best practices to develop a stable, secure, and modern educational technology stack.


The successful candidate will have:

  • An undergraduate degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, digital media design/development, interaction design, or related discipline; or
  • A post-secondary diploma in computer science, information systems, software engineering or related discipline combined with relevant industry certification (e.g., CompTIA A+, CompTIA N+) and five (5) years of relevant experience in industry or academic institutions; or
  • A combination of credentials and demonstrated experience as determined by the department
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience with a proven record of accomplishment in administering and supporting learning technologies, especially for fully online/technology-enabled courses
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience supporting a major educational technology system such as a Learning Management System (LMS), (e.g., Blackboard, Moodle, Brightspace, Canvas or MOOC platforms such as Coursera or eDX)
  • Two (2) to five (5) years demonstrated experience developing in and using a variety of web technologies including but not limited to: HTML, JavaScript, CSS, JSON, XML, PHP, RESTful API, and database technology
  • Experience with administering and supporting WordPress multisite installations, ePortfolios, and systems such as Drupal, Omeka, Mukurtu or other Content Management System
  • Experience in configuring, maintaining, and administering web servers and database creation
  • Experience with developing and delivering support and training for educational technology users, including documentation and service desk support
  • A broad and current awareness of the practical effectiveness and viability of current educational technologies
  • Familiarity with and commitment to use and contribute to free and open source software communities
  • Knowledge of the concepts, issues and standards related to the web, including security, privacy, and AODA compliance and principles
  • Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and best practices for design in a web-based environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and visual communication skills, as well as communication with distributed teams
  • Ability to problem-solve and creatively identify effective and efficient solutions in complex systems and processes
  • Ability to prioritize own work and respect strict deadlines
  • Demonstrated superior work ethic, initiative, ability to work independently, and as part of a team of creative and technical experts
  • Familiarity with Sharepoint, Office365 and project management software


  • Experience with CPanel and open source educational technologies and collaboration tools

Classification "VII" per Schedule A of the Collective Agreement
