At this current time, the Forge will remain in operation. Athletics & Recreation Services will wait to gain a better understanding of the usage of the space before making any further changes.
The previous St. Denis Centre is now a part of the renewed set of priorities and purpose of the Toldo Lancer Centre. The St. Denis Centre was built in 1981 in honour of Assumption College’s longest-serving president, Reverend Denis O’Connor of the Congregation of St. Basil. It has been the home for athletics and recreation, the hub of student activity and community gatherings memories for decades. Joining the new building with the existing, the Toldo Lancer Centre will be a beacon of campus and community pride bonding generations from the past to the future.
The Fieldhouse will remain an integral component to our operations at Athletics and Recreation Services. The indoor track, wood courts and Mondo surface will still be used for various varsity, intramural and fitness events.
The large multi-purpose room (MPR) is going through a quick renovation and will be available Fall 2022. Renovations include new paint, refurbished ceiling and revamped flooring. The MPR will be renamed and repurposed as a women’s only space as well provide space for 2SLGBTQ+ and other underrepresented community groups. The MPR will be equipped with a robust complement of strength and cardio training equipment, as well as provide a space for larger classes such as dance and yoga.
The Lancer Centre will adjoin to the former St. Denis Centre. The relocated main entrance will serve as the only entry point to the Lancer Centre to better serve our visitors and to enhance the customer experience.
