Rules and Regulations

1) Contest Period (November 17, 2020 - January 11, 2021)

1.1) The "Images of Human Rights and Social Justice Art Contest" is coordinated by the Office of Human Rights, Equity and Accessibility (“OHREA”) at the University of Windsor. Selected works may be included in the virtual event on February 26, 2021 at 12:00 pm (EST).

1.2) By entering the Contest, you accept these Rules and agree to be bound by them and the interpretation of these Rules by OHREA. If you are under the age of majority in Ontario, you represent and warrant that your parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) also accept these Rules (for themselves and on your behalf) and agree to be bound by them and the interpretation of these Rules by OHREA.

2) Student Eligibility

2.1) The competition is open to all individuals who are enrolled as a student (full or part-time) at the University of Windsor as of September 2020.

2.2) Original 2D and 3D pieces are eligible, provided they were created between September 1, 2020 and January 11, 2021.  2D and 3D pieces are eligible, however we are unable to consider media or time-based work.

3) Methods of Entry

3.1) For the purposes of this contest, all submissions will be required to be submitted electronically (e.g.  photographs of the work). Submissions will not be considered if they do not comply with the guidelines. For the purposes of this competition, all Entrants will own exclusive rights to their artwork submitted for the Contest (and / or have secured the necessary rights to reproduce all aspects included in the creation of the artwork) and expressly agree that OHREA may use the image submitted in any promotional materials for the contest in this and future years. The Submission period will start on November 17, 2020 and close on January 11, 2021 at 12:00 pm (EST).

3.2) In addition to meeting all requirements outlined below, all Entrants shall include up-to-date contact information (including phone number and UWindsor email address), the title of your artwork submission, dimensions, date created, a brief explanation of how your artwork ties into our theme of “Images of Human Rights and Social Justice”, your area of study at the University of Windsor including degree program and year of study, and an attestation (verification) as to the originality of their submission.

3.3) By making a submission, the Entrant: i) represents and warrants that they created the piece in accordance with these Rules,  ii) that they agree that an image of their submission may be used, if selected, in the virtual event and/or for any future promotional advertising of the contest this year and in the future, iii) confirms that they are a student of the University of Windsor in the Fall 2020 and/or Winter 2021 semester.

4) Judging

4.1) All submissions will be viewed by the jury panel (“Jury Panel”), which will be composed of University members selected by the Office of Human Rights, Equity and Accessibility of the University of Windsor.

4.2) The jury process will proceed as follows: a) All final submissions must be received by OHREA from all entrants by January 11, 2021 at 12:00 pm (EST). b) OHREA will then forward final submissions to a panel of jurors (“Jury Panel”). c) The Jury Panel will review submissions and select winners.

5) Prize(s)

5.1) There are a total of three (3) prizes available to be won, in the form of academic awards paid into the student’s account, that consist of two hundred and fifty dollars ($250 First Place), one hundred and fifty dollars ($150 Second Place), and seventy-five dollars ($75 Third Place).

5.2) All prizes will be distributed to the University of Windsor (UWin) account of the winner.

6) Awarding of Prize(s)

6.1) Announcement: The winner(s) will be announced at the online OHREA Awards ceremony on February 26, 2021.

6.2) Delivery of Prize: Following receipt of the selected entrant’s signed attestation and following the jury process, the selected entrants will receive an e-mail, informing them of the contest outcome.   Winning entrants must confirm receipt of e-mail to OHREA.

7) General Terms and Conditions

7.1) Verification of Submissions: The validity of any submission is subject to verification by OHREA. Any illegible, copied, incomplete or fraudulent submissions will be disqualified. Any entrant or other individual who enters or attempts to enter the contest in a manner that is contrary to these Rules or that is otherwise disruptive to the proper operation of the competition  or by its nature is unjust to other entrants or potential entrants will be disqualified. All decisions made by OHREA or its representatives, including without limitation those concerning the eligibility or disqualification of entrants, are final.
