MESSAGE FROM DEAN CHRIS HOUSER
The Faculty of Science and our students are committed to cutting-edge research that provides new insights about the world around us—research that is already improving and will continue to improve our quality of life.
We pledge to deliver progressive research opportunities, high-impact positive learning experiences for our students, and outreach programs that will inspire the next generation of young scientists.
Your support means that we can attract and empower the finest faculty, staff and students through new capital projects, multidisciplinary research, and scholarships.
Science at the University of Windsor is focusing on donor support in four areas: capital projects; the student experience; community engagement; and cutting-edge research.
Your support will help us achieve our goals and contribute to such initiatives as the Science Research and Innovation Facility, Undergraduate Student Experience in Science Fund, outreach programming through Science Academy, and our Science Undergraduate Research Experience Fund.
Science Research and Innovation Facility (SRIF)—The dynamic new 46,000 sq. three-storey Science Research and Innovation Facility will foster creativity and innovation. The research facility will be built on the main campus adjacent to the northern wing of Essex Hall. In addition to classrooms and teaching labs, SRIF will offer a wet and dry lab space where industry and academia collaborate in leading edge health research, commercialization in health manufacturing and materials research.
Laboratory Equipment—Conducting cutting-edge research requires technologically advanced equipment. As technology evolves, old equipment becomes obsolete. We need to continue to provide state-of-the-art laboratory equipment to enhance the student experience in both teaching and research.
Undergraduate Student Experience in Science—Employers are increasingly looking for graduates who have the capacity to think critically, communicate clearly and solve complex problems creatively with a global perspective. Students develop these critical skills though participation in high-impact experience including internships, fieldwork, study abroad, service learning and research experience.
Graduate Scholarships—When graduate students and researchers ask questions, it leads to answers. Support of graduate scholarships helps propel research closer to uncovering the next advancement, scientific breakthrough and discovery, which is only limited by our imaginations. Support for graduate scholarships is an investment in our future.
Public Lecture Series—Created to share the power and wonder of science with the greater community. Public discussions hosted by researcher and students capture the imagination of community members, both young and old and reinforce the importance of scientific literacy.
Science Academy—The community benefits when it engages in university activities that ignite interest in science and technology. Expanding outreach and recruitment programs that inspire youth to pursue careers in science, cancer research, mathematics and technology is a priority.
Science Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) fund—Provides students the opportunity to learn leadership and teaching skills in an established, peer-mentoring program designed to maximize undergraduate training in life and health science. Students work with researchers to explore peripheral research projects and identify promising opportunities.
- Research Chairs - Combined with government grants, research chairs allow us to attract the best and brightest by providing an opportunity for our researchers to focus on complex problems and the solutions they require. Support for research chairs is an investment in research and a commitment to a brighter future.
- Post-Doctoral Fellowships - Graduate studies in the Faculty of Science is the fastest-growing student segment and the reason our researchers succeed. To foster this continued growth, we want to develop our graduate student support for post-doctoral fellowships. This dedication to research and teaching will continue to set the Faculty of Science on the path to success.
