Maximize your entrance scholarship opportunities – complete your UWinAward Application!

  • 2022-2023 prospective students - the profile will open on December 1, 2021 and most awards will close April 30, 2022.

We invite you to explore the wide variety of entrance awards the University of Windsor offers students coming directly from full-time secondary school studies.  Some awards recognize academic excellence, some assist students with financial need, some celebrate students who demonstrate good citizenship and others reflect a combination of one or more of these attributes.  By completing the UWinAward Application/Profile with your basic information, you may become eligible for a variety of awards.

Some awards require that you submit additional information on your Awards Profile. We want to get to know more about you.  By thoughtfully describing things such as what you are passionate about and why, the leadership opportunities you’ve seized, the achievements that you’re most proud of, the contributions you’ve made to your school and community, or the impact that your educational choice may have on our world, you may become eligible for many additional awards and financial resources.  Start thinking now about how you might answer these questions.

References provide critical support to your Award Profile. These are the people that will speak with confidence about your fit for awards, and will help you to stand out in the crowd.  Give some thought to which teachers, employers or community contacts are best equipped to speak to your efforts and successes. Contact potential references early, assist them by providing a comprehensive summary of your activities and check in with them prior to the deadlines.

Many faculites and departments will offer program specific entrance scholarships.  As well, we have many donor-sponsored entrance scholarships which are program specific.  To receive these scholarships, students must register full-time in the program specified within the terms of the award.  This information is outlined in a student's scholarship offer.  For example, if a student receives a scholarship offer from the Odette School of Business and chooses to register in a program within the Faculty of Science, the scholarship offered by the Odette School of Business will be rescinced.

Scholarship Payment Procedures:
The student’s Social Insurance Number (SIN) must be entered on the UWinsite Student Homepage > Profile > Personal Details > Add SIN, for tax reporting purposes.  Subject to the conditions specified at the time of the scholarship offer, most awards will be credited one semester at a time. The scholarship payment will appear on the UWinsite Student Homepage > Financial Account > Payment History as “Anticipated Aid” before the ensuing term fee deadline date (August 15 for Fall; December 15 for Winter; May 15 for Summer) provided that the student is registered in the required number of courses. Scholarships and bursaries listed as 'anticipated aid' can be deducted from a student's tuition payment so that the student is required to only pay the difference in fees that is not covered by the 'anticipated aid' amount.  Scholarship payments are made directly to the student account after the add/drop period date in each semester (early Octoberfor Fall, early February for Winter and mid-July for Summer) should the scholarship conditions continue to be met. For example, the Dean’s Renewable Entrance Scholarship valued at $10,000 over 8 semesters will be paid in $1250 installments each term. In cases where the payment of funds results in a credit balance on the student’s tuition/financial account, a refund can be requested by logging on to UWinsite Student Homepage > Account Services > Online Refund Request, after the scholarship payment date for each term.  In cases where a rescinded award results in a balance owing to the University, the student must promptly make payment to ensure that their tuition account remains in good standing.

No matter what program you choose, you will be guaranteed a minimum level of institutional financial support in the form of scholarships and/ or bursaries if you are entering directly from full-time secondary school studies.  Your scholarship offer will be based on your application for admission and best six final and interim Grade 12 U/M level courses (or equivalent) available in May or CEGEP courses provided that you have no previous attendance at post-secondary educational institutions. Students entering directly from full-time secondary school who have achieved academic excellence are considered for automatic entrance scholarships.

We will review a student's scholarship offer when final grades are received at the end of June and if at that time a student's best six Grade 12 U or M course grades warrants an increase in the value of the scholarship(s) offered, the student will be notified. Please note that no scholarship offer will be adjusted downward based on final grades.  Also, summer secondary school grades are not considered for entrance scholarship eligibility.

Students must be entering the Fall term as a full-time student to be considered. Scholarship allocations will be adjusted accordingly if a student's start term is deferred to the Winter term.

The University of Windsor reserves the right to substitute all or a portion of a student's automatic entrance scholarship for a donor-sponsored renewable entrance scholarship that is equal to or greater than the value of the automatic renewable entrance scholarship.

Award Type Payment
Entrance award paid in one installment. If start term is Fall, payment is made 100% in Fall.  If start term is Winter, payment is made 100% in Winter.
Entrance award paid in two installments. If start term is Fall, payment is made 50% in Fall and 50% in Winter.  If start term is Winter, payment is made 50% in Winter and 50% in the next full term time term (must be either the ensuing Summer or Fall term - cannot not have more than a one term break to receive the 2nd installment.
