The MITACS Accelerate and Elevate programs provide funding that is matched by an industry partner to support the appointment of research personnel to work on a project for a period of one to two years. However, funding from the MITACS Accelerate and Elevate programs is paid in four-month instalments, which are reliant on the receipt of matching funds from the industry partner. In the very rare event that an industry partner does not or cannot provide matching funds to support the project, MITACS will terminate funding.
The MITACS Accelerate/Elevate Appointment Authorization Form has been designed to enable a faculty supervisor to appoint research personnel for a term exceeding the duration of each MITACS instalment.
By completing and submitting the MITACS Accelerate/Elevate Appointment Authorization Form, the faculty supervisor acknowledges that:
- they have fully vetted and approved the industry partner listed in the MITACS agreement;
- it is their responsibility to maintain communication with the industry partner, ensuring that the industry partner can continue to support the appointment through its duration; and
- they will provide funding to support the appointment through its duration or cover any costs associated with its early termination.
If you wish to appoint an individual who will be paid with funding provided through the MITACS Accelerate or Elevate programs for a term exceeding each four-month instalment, a completed and authorized MITACS Accelerate/Elevate Appointment Authorization Form must be submitted with the Request for Research or Post-Doc Appointment Package.
Below you will find the information you need to complete the MITACS Accelerate/Elevate Appointment Authorization Form.
In the Funding Details section of the MITACS Accelerate/Elevate Appointment Authorization Form, check the box next to the MITACS program that the appointment is funded through. List the number of the grant account that has been established to hold the MITACS funding for this project and the number of the alternative grant account that will be charged in the event that MITACS funding is terminated.
In this section, the faculty supervisor is asked to confirm their acknowledgement that they have fully vetted the industry partners listed in the Industry Partner Details section, and that they agree to provide funding to support the appointment through its duration or to cover any costs associated with its early termination from the Alternative Grant Account provided.
In addition to checking the appropriate boxes, the faculty supervisor is asked to sign and date the MITACS Accelerate/Elevate Appointment Authorization Form.
