A Message from the Co-Hosts

As co-hosts, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the University of Windsor’s inaugural Indigenous Research and Scholarship Forum. The University of Windsor is committed to the indigenization and decolonization of research, scholarship, and creative activity, and to building robust and meaningful partnerships with Indigenous faculty, students, and staff and communities through respectful dialogue and communication.

This full-day, hybrid conference has been designed to educate our campus community on Indigenous research, scholarship, and methodologies. Over the course of the day, participants joining us online and in-person will learn from Indigenous Elders, keynote speakers, and faculty, student, and staff presenters exploring critical themes, including two-eyed seeing, Indigenous ways of knowing, and decolonization of the academy. Presenters will share their Indigenous research, scholarship, and perspectives on Indigenous educational development, including curricula and pedagogy, in a post-secondary environment; Indigenous student success; Indigenous online learning; the use of Classical Grounded Theory in combining western and
Indigenous ways of knowing; the development Indigenous research methodologies; the impact of colonization on the role of Indigenous women in their community; and the reaction of Residential School Survivors to colonial compensation processes.

It is our hope that this inaugural Forum will provide an opportunity for our campus community and leadership to learn more fully about Indigenous research and scholarship. Listeners will have insight into the broad range of impactful work being done by Indigenous researchers and scholars at the University of Windsor and within the community, foster increased intercultural engagement between Indigenous and non-Indigenous faculty, students, and staff, and support an institutional environment that promotes Indigenous knowledges and ways of being.
