NOTICE RE: TEACHING ASSISTANT (TA) POSITIONS AVAILABLE FOR FALL TERM 2020

In accordance with Article 12:01 of the CUPE 4580 Collective Agreement Women’s and Gender Studies invites applications for TA positions for the Fall term 2020.  The total number of projected Teaching Assistantship positions in Women’s and Gender Studies  for the Fall term 2020  is 14 TA positions for a total of 1190 hours.  All positions are subject to sufficient enrolment and final budgetary approval.

SJST/DISB-1000-01:  Social Justice in Action

Expected TA duties include, but are not limited to:  all duties will be performed remotely (online), leading online discussion, grading of handwritten & online material, proctoring and answering student queries. 

Eligibility Requirements:

TA appointments shall be offered to qualified applicants in accordance with the criteria specified in Article 12:04 of the Collective Agreement. To be eligible for a Teaching Assistantship you must be a registered student:

  • must be registered for the term of work at the time of hiring
  • must maintain registration throughout the term and must be in good standing in the degree program

Note that Teaching Assistants can be employed for no more than 100 TA hours per semester total. If you already hold or have applied for another TA position (in this or another department) note that the total combined hours for all TA appointments held in all departments cannot exceed 100 hours for the Fall term period (Sept 1st to Dec. 31st).

Required Essential Qualifications:

  • Applicant must have taken the course (see exceptions below**).
  • Applicant must be available during class times and final exam slot.
  • Applicant must have received a final grade of 75% or higher in the course.
  • Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 70% or higher.

**For WGST-1200-01, applicants who have not taken WGST-1200 must have completed WGST-1000 with a final grade of 80% or higher.

**For WGST/SJST-1400-01, applicants who have not taken the course must have successfully TA’ed for this course in a previous term.

All GAs and TAs hired will be required to complete the mandatory new employee training at uwindsor.ca/requiredtraining and provide proof of completion to Women’s and Gender Studies.  If you have already completed this training, please submit your certificate and/or email confirmations along with your application.

The 2020 annual orientation of new Teaching Assistants is Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 3:00-4:30pm in Toldo, room 200.

The GA/TA Handbook is another valuable resource on various aspects of the roles of GAs and TAs and includes tips on grading, leading tutorials and labs, conflict resolution, etc. The handbook has been developed by the GA/TA Network team and can be downloaded from their blog.
