Dr. Hoda ElMaraghy

Dr. ElMaraghy has been appointed “Distinguished University Professor” in October 2016 - the highest honor and rank at the University. She was inducted Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) in 2018 and elected Fellow of the Swedish Royal Academy of Engineering Science (IVA) in 2017 (inducted in Stockholm in 2018). She was also inducted in the McMaster University Alumni Gallery “Hall of Fame” in May 2019. Professor Hoda ElMaraghy was invested in the “Order of Ontario” in January 2016, and received an Honorary Doctorate from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2013. She received many other awards and recognitions including the PEO Medal for Research and Development, the first Engineering Ambassador Award in Canada (2014) from Partners in Research (PIR), and was featured in the book “Northern Lights: Outstanding Canadian Women” published by Ru’bicon in 2004.

Dr. Hoda ElMaraghy is a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineers (CSME), Fellow of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), and Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP) and Member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Her teaching and research interests are in manufacturing systems design, evolution, changeability, flexibility, reconfiguration, intelligence, assembly, process planning and robotics. Dr. Hoda ElMaraghy published more than 500 papers in scientific professional journals and conferences, edited 6 books and contributed to 30 other books. She is a member of Editorial Boards of several International Scientific and Engineering Journals. She received a mechanical engineering Bachelor degree from Cairo University, Egypt and Master’s and Ph.D. degrees from McMaster University, Canada where she became a Professor and founding Director of the Flexible Manufacturing Systems Centre until joining the University of Windsor as the first woman Dean of Engineering in Canada in 1994. She trained and mentored 25 PDFs, 32 PhDs, 35 Masters and 35 visiting and other researchers. 

Dr. H. ElMaraghy is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, Canada. She acts as a consultant to many government and corporate organizations, universities as well as industry in Canada, USA and internationally. Dr. Hoda A. ElMaraghy introduced and helped implement new and advanced technologies in manufacturing automation and products/systems design. The results of her industrially motivated and sponsored research has led to innovative solutions to significant and universal problems, which are implemented in industry.
