Healing from Within

History has shown that lasting solutions to deep-rooted conflict come from within the communities or the individuals at the centre of disputes. Indeed, the past has shown that employers, local governments, or international bodies that attempt to initiate solutions without adequate input from conflicting parties often make the situation worse.

The CICR's Third Party Neutral (TPN) training gives you the proper blend of theory and practice to begin addressing underlying conflict while dealing with the surface disputes that too often mask the true nature of community strife. More importantly, the Institute's training provides the skills and understanding that can help you lay the groundwork for lasting long term solutions.

Objective Listeners and Skilled Interveners

Third Party Neutral Training gives its participants the skills to guide the process by which parties in conflict identify the underlying causes of conflict and, thereby, begin to develop solutions. As part of their training, Third Party Neutrals learn:

  • to remain objective and not take on the burden of conflict;
  • to listen and be non-judgmental;
  • to be flexible and change their roles as the conflict resolution process evolves;
  • to use conciliation, negotiation techniques, mediation, facilitation and group processes to assist quarrelling parties in finding a common understanding of their problems.

TPN is principle-driven, skills-based, experiential training that allows participants to develop the good judgement and sense of timing needed to move the conflict resolution process along.

Third Party Neutral training is offered in four modules. Each module is five days of active training. A certificate is awarded for each module completed. Participants who complete all four courses receive a 160-hour Third Party Neutral program Certificate. Instruction is offered only in English
