Corona ignition

Corona Discharge

Corona Discharge Demo Unit

Corona ignition is an emerging ignition technology which is capable to generate high-energy, high frequency electrical field. The established alternating electric field can induce repeatable multiple streams of ions for air-fuel mixture combustion. The demo unit (shown in the picture above) developed in the Clean Combustion Engine Lab is capable of generating corona discharge (click for video) in the range of 700 kHz to 2 MHz with an estimated energy of ~500 mJ.

Real-time feedback control strategy (click for video) is embedded into the RT-controller, increasing its robustness against external interference during operation.
