Can-Am Classic a test for track and field teams

Lancer track and field is in the starting blocks for the 2017 competition season, and both men’s and women’s squads are ranked third in the country by U Sports. Windsor hosts the teams ranked above them — Western and Guelph — among others during the Can-Am Classic meet this weekend at the St. Denis Centre.

Events will run Friday and Saturday in the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse. Find details at goLancers.ca.

In other varsity action, women’s hockey plays host to two northern rivals at South Windsor Arena: the Laurentian Voyageurs at 7:30 p.m. Friday and the Nipissing Lakers at 4 p.m. Saturday. Men’s hockey will take to the ice in the same venue to face off against the York Lions at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The St. Denis Centre will switch over to volleyball on Sunday, with the Lancers playing a doubleheader against the Western Mustangs. The women play at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.

And basketball takes to the road Saturday, in London to play Western in a pair of contests. The women will play at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m. Both Windsor teams currently lead their divisions.
