Campus to host blood donor clinic Tuesday

It can take many blood donors to help save even one hospital patient, says Joan Hannah of Canadian Blood Services. That’s why she is hoping for a large turnout at the agency’s public clinic, Tuesday in the CAW Student Centre.

“We need University staff and students to rally together,” she says. “It takes up to five donors a week to help someone who is in cancer treatment.”

She encourages members of the campus community to participate and bring a friend.

“There are many young people who have not yet donated blood for any numbers of reasons,” she says. “Our experience is that once they learn how simple and quick the process is, they are much less intimidated.”

The donor clinic runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Ambassador Auditorium. Walk-in donors are welcome, but appointments will better accommodate donors’ working schedules. To book an appointment, call 1-888-2DONATE (1-888-236-6283).

As with previous clinics, the Department of Human Resources encourages all eligible employees to participate in this worthwhile process and asks any employees who wish to donate to make the necessary arrangements with their supervisors regarding the possibility of extended lunch or break periods.
