The virtually unknown contributions of black athletes in ice hockey are the subject of a film to be screened Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the Human Kinetics Building.
Soul on Ice: Past, Present, and Future presents the exploits of those who dared to make the sport their own. The screening is set for 7 p.m. in room 140, HK Building.
At 6:45 p.m., the faculty will unveil a plaque dedicated to the Chatham Coloured All-Stars, the first Black team to win an Ontario Baseball Association title.
The event is free and open to the public, sponsored by the University of Windsor Students’ Alliance and AfroFest 2019 in addition to the Faculty of Human Kinetics. Organizers will collect donations for the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society.
