Law 1 Information

 Windsor Law Students:

Examinations in the Faculty of Law commence Monday, April 9, 2012.

Please ensure that you respect the quiet environment required to prepare for and write examinations.   Following your examinations, we know that you might be anxious to talk with your classmates and share the experience.  We would ask that you do please do so in a manner that is not disruptive to others who are still writing or studying.

I draw your attention specifically to the following summary information:

A. Identification:  All examinations in the Faculty of Law are written using a confidential examination number. You can access your examination number through the Student Information System by selecting  “Examination Numbers (Law Only)”   Be sure to keep a record of the  April Final examination number as you will need it throughout the examination period.   This number will be used on all examination booklets and question papers.   Please note that on Scantron (bubble) Sheets, you must use your full name and 9 digit University of Windsor student ID number instead.   For students in the Dual JD Program, you must use your UW examination number while writing UW examinations and your UDM examination number when writing UDM examinations.

Should you have difficulty accessing your examination number, please contact the Academic Coordinator, Virginia Obierski at 519-253-3000 extension 2931 or obierski@uwindsor.ca.

B. Room Assignments:  The attached Examination Schedule indicates room assignments for each examination.  Copies are also available in the General Office.  Where an examination is being invigilated in more than one room, you have your choice of rooms on a first come first serve basis.

C. Examination Procedures:   It is your responsibility to read and be familiar with the Examination Procedures for the Faculty of Law(attached and available in the General Office).     Please note that the time limit for an examination includes the time required to prepare your examination booklet(s) and/or Scantron Sheet.  NO WRITING will be permitted after time is called - please use the time provided to ensure that you have numbered the examination booklets and  included your examination number before time is called.  When reviewing the Examination Procedures, pay particular attention to paragraph (vi)  which reads:

Any student who continues to write any examination after the examination period has expired shallbe subject to a downward adjustment of his/her grade on that examination to compensate for the unfair advantage the student gained over his/her fellow students who observed the time limit.  The adjustment may be more than one grade level in the case of more flagrant violations.  The adjustment to be made in any individual case shall be determined initially by the professor concerned, subject to ratification by the Faculty.  The student concerned shall have a right to a hearing before the Faculty at the time his/her case is being considered."

D. Materials Permitted: the use of any electronic devices during the course of examinations is strictly prohibited.  This includes laptop computers, cell phones, PDAs, IPOD's etc.   All electronic devices must be turned off and stored;  they cannot be placed on desk tops in the examination room.   They can not be used as timekeepers.  Please note that only simple calculators are permitted in those examinations where the instructor has authorized the use of a calculator (ie no memory or storage function).

For closed book examinations, all materials brought into the examination room must be stored under the desk or against a wall.   Some examinations are modified closed book where the instructor has permitted specific reference material.  Only that material will be allowed and only in the form permitted by the instructor - for example, if the instructions call for a clean copy of a piece of legislation, only a clean, unannotated copy will be permitted.

In open book examinations, you can bring in any material, in paper form, that has not been specifically excluded by the instructor.  Dictionaries (legal or otherwise) or other reference material are permitted unless specifically excluded in the instructions from your instructor.

E.  Emergency Contacts:    Academic Status instructions are attached below for your review.  The Academic Status Committee will meet regularly during the Examination Period to consider medical and/or compassionate requests. Any issues regarding the conduct of examination, including illnesses prior to or during the examination, must immediately be brought to the attention of the Associate Dean and/or the Academic Coordinator.   Contact information is as follows:
