Dr. Bruce Kotowich, director

Heritage Auditorium, Assumption Hall, 400 Huron Church Rd.

Windsor’s holiday musical tradition, the Festival of Christmas, returns to the acoustically excellent Heritage Auditorium in Assumption Hall for two performances – Saturday, December 10, 7:30 pm AND Sunday, December 11, 2:30 pm! Come hear the UWindsor Chamber Choir and University Singers under the direction of Dr. Bruce Kotowich, perform seasonal favourites and new choral works for the Holiday Season including a new choral work by Canadian composer Larry Nickel, “An A cappella Christmas Cantata!“

Composer Larry Nickel talks about his new work, “An A cappella Christmas Cantata”:

Pregnant out of wedlock and then claiming virginity: imagine people rolling their eyes, “Ya right! Tell me another one!” Humble Mary walked across the countryside to visit her cousin, who was also pregnant - with John the Baptist. As Mary approached the door, Elizabeth’s baby leaped inside her. 30 years later John would baptize Jesus in the Jordan River and eventually be beheaded at the request of Herod’s seductive wife. There are rare and extenuating parts of the Christmas narrative and this Cantata touches on a few. The tiny baby on a bed of straw is the simple charming picture most of us envision at Christmas. The life of Christ changed the direction of the entire world. There is hope, love and redemption for us all; I’m an ardent believer. I am so pleased and feel honoured that Dr. Kotowich with such fantastic young singers are conveying this message.    Larry Nickel

Tickets: $15 Adults/Seniors; $5 Students (with ID). The Box Office and Online ticket store are closed on weekends. Not to worry, tickets will be available for purchase at the door up to on hour before the performance. Cash only at the door.
