Low Brass Masterclass with Tubist Jarrett McCourt

Music Building, room 125

On February 2nd, SoCA is pleased to announce that we will be hosting Jarrett McCourt, a Windsor-born tubist, for a low brass masterclass and workshop. Those of you familiar with the Windsor Optimist Youth Band may recognize McCourt, as he spent much of his childhood as a member, and visits Windsor frequently. He has studied at the University of Western Ontario and the University of Michigan, and has performed with the DSO, WSO, Flint Symphony Orchestra, and is currently the Principal Tubist of the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida.

This workshop is FREE to attend and will be extremely beneficial to all brass students, as well as the students currently enrolled in Brass Techniques. Don't pass up this incredible opportunity on February 2, 7:00pm in Room 125.

After Jarrett McCourt attended the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckinridge, CO in 2014, he was appointed as Principal Tuba of the New World Symphony. A few months before that, Mr. McCourt won the top prize in the brass division of the Montreal Symphony’s Standard Life competition, and was the first tuba player to do so in the competition’s 75 year history.

Jarret states, “For me, NRO was a huge turning point for my playing. Playing a large amount of repertoire alongside incredible musicians from around the country was something that I really needed at that time, and spending eight weeks in beautiful Breckenridge was certainly a great way to spend my summer as well. I can’t recommend the NRO enough for young musicians looking to play great rep, with great musicians, in a beautiful part of the country.”
