Treatise on defamation law reaches 30-year milestone

Retired law professor Raymond Brown is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the initial publication of his magnum opus, an 11-volume text on defamation law.

Raymond BrownThe first edition, entitled The Law of Defamation in Canada, was a two-volume treatise published in 1987. He has continued to expand its scope, adding material from other countries. Its current title — Brown on Defamation: Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, United States — reflects that development.

Brown’s work has been referenced, quoted, or cited as authority in more than 800 judicial decisions, including every defamation case decided by the Supreme Court of Canada.
