The impact of media sexualization of girls and women is the subject of a colloquium on Thursday, March 28.

L. Monique Ward, professor of psychology at the University of Michigan, will lead “The Costs of Sexy: Exploring the Impact of Media’s Sexualization of Girls and Women” at 4 p.m. in room 200, Toldo Health and Education Centre.

Dr. Ward’s work, which explores the intersections between gender ideologies, body image, race, and sexuality, has been published in more than 30 different academic journals, as well as presented to policy makers, including a program for Fisher Price and a summit at the Obama White House.

Ward is the recipient of many national awards including the Distinguished Leader for Women in Psychology Award from the APA Committee on Women in Psychology, the Carolyn Wood Sherif Award for substantial contributions to the field of the psychology of women and gender, and the Senior Scholar Award from the Children, Adolescents, and Media Division of the International Communication Association.
