Winter 2024

Saturday, January 20, 2024, 7:30pm
Alumni Recital: Amelia Daigle, soprano and Daniel Turner, guitar

In 2021 Ms. Daigle formed a group by the name of Alma with her colleague, Daniel Turner (guitar) which involves the exploration and performance of Spanish Zarzuela, Opera and Art Song. Several of the songs you will hear this evening were arranged by Daniel for voice and guitar and are normally performed with piano accompaniment. Since most of these songs are inspired or based on existing folk songs that would have traditionally been played on guitar it seemed appropriate to bring the music back to where it started.

The duo made its European debut this past summer at La Roche D’Hys Summer Music Festival in Burgundy, France where there were artists in residence as well as The Camino Artes Guitar Festival in Carrión de los Condes, Spain where they performed in several concerts in various cathedrals along the Camino Trail (August 2023). The duo has since been invited to perform in Berlin, Germany this coming Fall (September 2024).

Embark on a captivating musical journey that traces the evolution of my musical prowess through a carefully curated recital. Beginning with Michael Colquhoun's Charanga, the program unfolds with diverse compositions by Valerie Coleman, Paul Hindemith, Takatsugu Muramatsu, Anne LeBaron, and Eldin Burton. Each piece contributes to a narrative of challenges, triumphs, and personal growth, inviting the audience to explore the rich tapestry of my musical journey, from traditional to avant-garde expressions, ultimately culminating in a poignant reflection with Burton's Sonatina.
