Campus Community Police

Campus Community Police works in partnership with the University community to provide a safe and secure learning environment.

Campus Community Police officers are sworn Special Constables approved by the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and appointed on behalf of the Windsor Police Services Board.

So that they can provide effective law enforcement and security services to the University of Windsor, Campus Community Police have many of the same powers and authorities for the campus as Windsor Police have for the Province of Ontario. These powers allow officers to investigate incidents, arrest persons, use reasonable force where necessary and bring offenders before the courts.

Authority for officers extends to all properties belonging to the University, the abutting side streets and affiliated Colleges like Canterbury and Iona Colleges and Assumption University.

The Campus Community Police office is located in the Joyce Entrepreneurship Centre, at 2455 Wyandotte Street West. It is accessible via the Sunset Avenue entrance. (Campus Map)

Campus Community Police is available 24/7/365. In an emergency, dial Extension 911 from any phone on campus. For non-emergency matters, please phone Extension 1234. You can also contact Campus Community Police directly via the numerous emergency poles and phones located on campus.

Non-emergency inquiries can be directed to cpolice@uwindsor.ca. Please note that this account is not monitored 24/7; if you require immediate assistance, contact Campus Community Police via phone.

UWindsor Alert

Campus Community Police hosts an emergency notification program called UWindsor Alert. All members of the campus community receive emails via their university accounts when an Alert is issued.

By registering your cell phone number in the program, you will also receive notification via your preference of text or phone call in the event of a campus emergency. In some cases, you may be advised to avoid a specific area of campus. You may also be asked if you need assistance evacuating an area should you be working or studying in a sensitive part of campus.

Crime Prevention Initiatives

As part of its focus on the campus community, Campus Community Police emphasizes crime prevention initiatives. Campus Community Police promotes and encourages the use of prevention-focused programs such as the Bicycle Registration System, Rape Aggression Defense, Workplace Violence , and the STOP Theft laptop theft prevention program.

Weapons on Campus

It is never acceptable to bring weapons – particularly firearms – to campus. This prohibition extends to realistic-looking toys and model weapons, as they may reasonably engender confusion, apprehension, and panic in the campus community.

The introduction of a gun to campus will occasion an armed response from Windsor Police. Faculty and students need to be aware that when Windsor Police locate a person with a gun, the assumption is that the weapon is real and dangerous.

Building Access

Not all buildings on campus are open and accessible 24/7. Campus Community Police cannot grant access to various areas of campus after hours or on weekends without proper authorization. Should you schedule events for your classes on weekends, be certain to book the space through either the Registrar or Conference and Accommodation Services to ensure the area is appropriately accessible when you need it.
